CVE-2026-33147Public exploit

Code execution via unbounded dataset identifier copy

Published Mar 20, 2026 · Updated Mar 20, 2026

Stack-based buffer overflow in GMT 6.6.0 and earlier allows local users to crash the process or execute code via a long dataset identifier. The gmt_remote_dataset_id function passes an untrusted substring to strcpy, which copies it without bounds checking into the fixed-size file[PATH_MAX] stack buffer. Reachability requires local invocation through a module such as which, the C API, or a higher-level interface; the overwrite can corrupt the return address with the GMT process's privileges.
