Crash and heap disclosure via wrong alpha stride
Published May 19, 2026 · Updated May 19, 2026
Out-of-bounds read in Struktur AG libheif 1.21.2 and earlier allows attackers to crash decoders or disclose heap data via crafted HEIF files. HeifPixelImage::overlay() uses the color-plane in_stride to index the alpha plane instead of alpha_stride when their bit depths differ, reading beyond the alpha buffer. Exploitation requires an application to decode an overlay image with mismatched color and alpha bit depths; consequences are limited to a process crash or adjacent heap bytes appearing in decoded pixels.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
