CVE-2026-32741Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Application crash via oversized mask-image extent copy

Published May 19, 2026 · Updated May 19, 2026

Heap buffer overflow in libheif before 1.22.0 allows remote attackers to crash image-processing applications via a crafted HEIF file. MaskImageCodec::decode_mask_image() copies the attacker-controlled iloc extent length into a pixel buffer sized from declared image dimensions without an upper-bound check. Triggering the overflow requires an 8-bit mask image, an even declared width of at least 64 pixels, and processing of the crafted file; the demonstrated consequence is heap corruption and an application crash.
