Arbitrary file write via unsanitized archive paths
Published Mar 18, 2026 · Updated Mar 18, 2026
Path traversal in @apostrophecms/import-export before 3.5.3 allows remote authenticated users to write arbitrary files via crafted archives. The extract function in gzip.js passes each untrusted tar header name through path.join and opens the result with fs.createWriteStream without verifying that the resolved path remains under the extraction directory. Global Content Modify permission and import access are required; successful exploitation can overwrite any file writable by the Node.js process.
