Two-factor authentication bypass via unrestricted TOTP guessing
Published Mar 13, 2026 · Updated Mar 13, 2026
Authentication bypass in Runtipi before 4.8.1 allows remote authenticated users to gain full operator access by brute-forcing TOTP codes. The verifyTotp method accepts unlimited six-digit guesses against a 24-hour session because failed attempts neither increment a counter nor invalidate the session. Exploitation requires valid account credentials and enabled TOTP, after which a successful guess creates a full authenticated session.
