Local privilege escalation via symlink following
Published Aug 18, 2026 · Updated Aug 19, 2026
Symlink following in Dell AppSync, Metro Node, PowerMax, Unity, VxRail, UCC Edge, and PowerFlex products allows local users to gain elevated privileges. Dell has disclosed only that affected components follow an attacker-controlled UNIX symbolic link; no public advisory, CVE record, or patch diff retrieved here names the file path, operation, or code path that dereferences it. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access and user interaction per Dell's CVSS vector, so exposure depends on whether untrusted local users can place symlinks where these products later access privileged files.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=0 <5.5.2 or later

Published CVSS scores
CVSS describes severity. EPSS estimates exploitation probability.
