Denial of service in Go standard library crypto/x509 before 1.25.9 and 1.26.0-0 through 1.26.1 allows remote attackers to exhaust CPU. Certificate.buildChains recursively explores every plausible parent returned by findPotentialParents, while alreadyInChain scans precede enforcement of the signature-attempt limit. In TLS, reachability requires client-certificate verification and many lookalike intermediates; direct Verify callers are exposed when attackers control the intermediate pool.
