Stored DOM XSS via decoded text reconstruction
Published Mar 19, 2026 · Updated Mar 19, 2026
Stored DOM XSS in OpenEMR before 8.0.0.2 allows remote authenticated users to execute JavaScript in a clinician's browser. SearchHighlight's hiliteTree reads browser-decoded encounter-form text nodes, inserts raw substrings into an HTML string, and sends it to jQuery for parsing. Exploitation requires encounter-form write access and a clinician to run a single-word Find search on the affected Custom Report content.
