Process crash via unchecked BPF program bounds
Published Sep 5, 2026 · Updated Sep 8, 2026
Out-of-bounds read in the libpcap BPF interpreter before 1.10.7 allows local users to crash a process via a crafted filter program. The pcapint_filter_with_aux_data() routine lacks program-length and jump-bound checks, so execution reads beyond the instruction buffer. Reachability requires an application to pass an externally supplied, unvalidated compiled filter to pcap_offline_filter() or bpf_filter(); execution then interprets adjacent process memory as instructions and terminates through SIGSEGV or abort().

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
