Kernel crash via stale ECC engine registration
Published May 1, 2026 · Updated May 1, 2026
Improper cleanup in the Amlogic SPI flash controller driver in Linux kernel 6.18 allows attackers to crash the kernel locally. aml_sfc_probe() registers an on-host NAND ECC engine without teardown on probe-unwind or device-removal paths, leaving stale driver state registered. Reaching the removal path requires CAP_SYS_ADMIN in the initial user namespace to unbind the platform device, so unprivileged user namespaces cannot trigger it.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
