Kernel memory corruption via SSID size wraparound
Published May 1, 2026 · Updated May 1, 2026
Heap buffer overflow in the wilc1000 Wi-Fi driver in Linux Kernel allows local users to corrupt kernel memory through an SSID scan. In hif.c, the u8 valuesize accumulator wraps after ten maximum-length SSIDs, so kmalloc reserves 75 bytes before memcpy writes as many as 331. The path requires local access and an active WILC1000 interface; the overwrite can crash the system or alter privileged kernel state.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
