CVE-2026-31748

Kernel buffer overread via unvalidated firmware length

Published May 1, 2026 · Updated May 1, 2026

Out-of-bounds read in the Linux kernel me_daq Comedi driver allows local users to overread a firmware buffer via a malformed firmware file. The me2600_xilinx_download() function trusts the first four bytes as file_length and reads that many bytes from offset 16 without confirming that the source buffer contains the declared stream. Reaching the read requires root access to place the firmware in /lib/firmware and a subsequent device probe; the published sources do not establish a broader consequence.
