CVE-2026-31713

Filesystem creation hang via retained FUSE descriptor

Published May 1, 2026 · Updated May 1, 2026

Denial of service in Linux Kernel FUSE 6.18 through 7.1-rc1 allows local users to hang filesystem creation during sync init. During synchronous FUSE initialization, the mounting thread retains the device file descriptor after the userspace server exits, preventing the kernel abort path from completing. Triggering the hang requires local low-privileged access and a FUSE server that exits while processing FUSE_INIT; the affected mount remains stuck.
