Local privilege escalation via oversized FUSE dirents
Published May 1, 2026 · Updated May 1, 2026
Out-of-bounds write in the Linux kernel FUSE readdir cache allows local users to corrupt adjacent kernel page memory. fuse_add_dirent_to_cache() copies a server-sized directory entry into one cache page without rejecting records larger than PAGE_SIZE. A malicious FUSE server and a 4 KiB page system are required; the resulting 24-byte overwrite enables local privilege escalation.
