CVE-2026-31570

Kernel heap corruption via raw negative indices

Published Apr 24, 2026 · Updated Apr 24, 2026

Out-of-bounds access in Linux Kernel 5.4 through 7.0-rc7 allows adjacent attackers to corrupt kernel heap memory via CAN FD frames. cgw_csum_crc8_rel() validates normalized indices but reads and writes with the original signed fields, allowing negative offsets before canfd_frame. A matching CRC8-relative CAN gateway rule must already exist; creating that rule requires CAP_NET_ADMIN, while injected bus traffic can expose heap data or destabilize the kernel.
