Local service interruption via sleep-unsafe GPIO access
Published Apr 24, 2026 · Updated Apr 24, 2026
Improper GPIO access in the Linux kernel nxp-nci I2C driver allows local users to interrupt NFC service on affected systems. The nxp_nci_i2c_set_mode function calls gpiod_set_value for firmware and enable lines even when their GPIO controller can sleep. Reachability requires NXP NCI hardware whose lines use an I2C GPIO expander; the invalid atomic-context access raises a kernel warning and disrupts driver operation.
