Service interruption via NVMe queue polling race
Published Apr 22, 2026 · Updated Apr 22, 2026
A race condition in the Linux Kernel NVMe PCI driver allows local users to interrupt service by racing polled-queue remapping during reset. In nvme_poll() in drivers/nvme/host/pci.c, the driver checks only for pending completions and can poll a queue after it has switched to interrupt-driven mode, allowing both paths to complete the same request. Triggering the race requires local access, a runtime change to the polled-queue count, a concurrent controller reset, and high-priority polling I/O; the reported consequence is double completion and availability loss.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
