CVE-2026-31450

Kernel crash via premature jinode pointer publication

Published Apr 22, 2026 · Updated Apr 22, 2026

Race condition in the Linux kernel ext4 fast-commit path allows local users to crash the kernel by syncing filesystem data. ext4_inode_attach_jinode() publishes ei->jinode before jbd2_journal_init_jbd_inode() initializes i_vfs_inode, so a concurrent flush can dereference its unset mapping pointer. Triggering requires concurrent fast-commit flush activity on an ext4 filesystem and can interrupt the entire host.
