System crash via mishandled regmap error pointer
Published Apr 22, 2026 · Updated Apr 22, 2026
Error handling in the Xilinx XDMA driver in affected Linux Kernel releases starting at 6.3 allows local users to crash the system during device initialization. The driver checks the devm_regmap_init_mmio result for NULL even though failures are encoded as ERR_PTR values, causing failed initialization to be treated as a usable regmap. The attack requires local low-privilege access and an XDMA initialization path in which regmap setup fails; the bounded consequence is a system crash.

Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
