Authenticated kernel heap corruption via descriptor overflow
Published Apr 22, 2026 · Updated Apr 22, 2026
Out-of-bounds write in Linux Kernel ksmbd allows remote authenticated users to corrupt kernel memory through compound SMB requests. smb2_get_info_sec() trusts the smaller ppntsd_size from an extended attribute, while build_sec_desc() synthesizes a larger POSIX ACL descriptor after a preceding READ consumes the response buffer. Reachability requires a valid SMB session, tree connection, and open file handle; guest shares still require session setup, and corruption can crash the kernel or alter adjacent objects.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
