System crash via unvalidated ATM VCC pointer
Published Apr 8, 2026 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
A pointer dereference in the Linux kernel ATM send path allows local users to crash the system with a crafted signaling message. The sigd_send() path trusts msg->vcc from sendmsg() and dereferences an arbitrary address instead of confirming that it refers to a live VCC. Exploitation requires CAP_NET_ADMIN, control of the ATM signaling-daemon role, and a kernel built with CONFIG_ATM; successful triggering causes a kernel crash.
