CVE-2026-31395

Kernel memory corruption via unchecked firmware trace index

Published Apr 3, 2026 · Updated Apr 3, 2026

Out-of-bounds access in the bnxt_en driver in the Linux kernel allows attackers controlling a Broadcom NIC to corrupt memory or crash. The DBG_BUF_PRODUCER branch in bnxt_async_event_process uses a firmware-supplied 16-bit type directly to index bp->bs_trace without checking that it is at most 0xc. Exploitation requires a malicious or compromised NIC that can write the DMA completion ring; the subsequent wrap check dereferences and updates the out-of-range trace entry.
