Decoder crash via unchecked primary reference index
Published Apr 13, 2026 · Updated Apr 13, 2026
Out-of-bounds read in FFmpeg 8.0.1 allows remote attackers to crash an AV1 decoding process with a crafted media input. read_global_param() indexes ref_frame_idx with primary_ref_frame before checking whether that value is the AV1_PRIMARY_REF_NONE sentinel. Processing the crafted AV1 frame is sufficient to read beyond the reference-frame array and terminate the decoding process, without reported data disclosure or modification.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
