Authenticated root code execution via oversized POST body
Published Jun 2, 2026 · Updated Jun 2, 2026
Stack buffer overflow in VIVOTEK FD8136 firmware 0300a allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary code as root on the camera. The eventtask.cgi binary reads a POST body from standard input into an approximately 0x88-byte stack buffer without checking its length, allowing the saved link register to be overwritten. Valid admin-interface credentials and network access to /cgi-bin/admin/eventtask.cgi are required; successful exploitation redirects control flow with root privileges.
