Pre-auth root code execution via unbounded sprintf
Published Jun 2, 2026 · Updated Jun 2, 2026
Stack-based buffer overflow in VIVOTEK FD8136 firmware 0300a allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code through an anonymous CGI endpoint. The set_get_param function passes an unbounded POST body to sprintf, which overwrites a fixed-size stack buffer and its saved return address. The anonymous setparam.cgi route requires no authentication, and successful exploitation redirects execution to attacker-supplied code as root.
