Remote command execution via MCP configuration overwrite
Published Apr 15, 2026 · Updated Apr 15, 2026
Prompt injection in Windsurf 1.9544.26 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands when the application processes crafted HTML. Malicious instructions in the HTML cause Windsurf to overwrite the local MCP configuration and automatically register an attacker-controlled STDIO server whose command is launched. Processing attacker-controlled HTML is the disclosed gate; command execution occurs with the user's privileges without further interaction and can persist in the MCP configuration.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
