Unauthenticated code execution via mapfile plugin loading
Published Apr 9, 2026 · Updated Apr 9, 2026
DLL injection in OSGeo Project MapServer before 8.0 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code through the CGI map parameter. The mapserv.exe CGI accepts an attacker-controlled mapfile, parses its PLUGIN layer, and loads a network-hosted DLL without restricting the library source. The demonstrated path is unauthenticated and requires a reachable Windows CGI deployment that can retrieve the attacker's remote share.
