Authentication bypass via out-of-sequence SecurityModeComplete
Published Apr 7, 2026 · Updated Apr 7, 2026
Authentication bypass in OpenAirInterface AMF 2.2.0 allows remote attackers to register a UE by sending an out-of-sequence NAS message. After InitialUERegistration, the AMF rejects an unexpected SecurityModeComplete message but still decodes its embedded RegistrationRequest and advances the GMM state machine to issue RegistrationAccept. Access to the AMF's NGAP/NAS registration path is sufficient to obtain unauthenticated UE registration; no broader post-registration capability is established.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
