Unauthenticated service crash via oversized authentication response
Published Apr 8, 2026 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Buffer overflow in OpenAirInterface AUSF 2.2.0 allows remote attackers to crash the service with an oversized 5G authentication response. AUSF handles the 105-byte resStar without enforcing the specification length, triggering stack-smashing termination during verification. A crafted Authentication Response sent through the AMF is sufficient; the AUSF exit blocks subsequent subscriber registration and verification.
