Application hang via escaped-backslash parsing loop
Published May 8, 2026 · Updated May 8, 2026
Improper input validation in lwjson 1.8.1's streaming parser allows remote attackers to hang applications via well-formed JSON. Its string-end logic treats any quote preceded by a backslash as escaped instead of counting consecutive backslashes, so a valid string ending in an escaped backslash never terminates parsing. Exploitation requires an application to pass attacker-controlled JSON to lwjson_stream_parse(), where the parsing thread hangs without disclosing or modifying data.
