Service interruption via VirtualHost regex backtracking
Published Mar 18, 2026 · Updated Mar 18, 2026
Regular expression denial of service in aaPanel 7.57.0 allows remote attackers to hang VirtualHost parsing via crafted configuration input. Patterns in domain_tool.py and ssl.py place ambiguous repetition before nested digit quantifiers, causing catastrophic backtracking on long repetitive strings. Unauthenticated network access suffices; exploitation consumes CPU or triggers parser timeouts, interrupting configuration processing.
