Subscriber-to-Administrator escalation via unchecked database update
Published Mar 21, 2026 · Updated Mar 21, 2026
Missing authorization in Linksy Search and Replace 1.0.4 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to modify arbitrary database values. The linksy_search_and_replace_item_details function accepts attacker-selected database tables and values without a capability check, including wp_capabilities. Subscriber-level access is sufficient to assign the attacker's account the Administrator role, enabling privileged control of the WordPress site.
