Pre-auth account takeover via NoSQL token injection
Published Apr 22, 2026 · Updated Apr 22, 2026
NoSQL injection in Rocket.Chat before 8.3.0 across affected 7.x and 8.x branches allows remote attackers to take over an account. OAuth authentication forwards a non-string access_token query value into OAuthAccessTokens.findOneByAccessToken, so MongoDB operators such as $ne, $exists, $gt, or $regex select an existing token instead of matching an opaque token string. The endpoint requires no prior account, but exploitation requires an OAuth app and at least one generated access token; the selected token user's account is compromised.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
