SCM data disclosure via encoded path traversal
Published Mar 7, 2026 · Updated Mar 7, 2026
Path traversal in Backstage before 1.20.1 allows remote authenticated users to read SCM data through unintended provider API requests. SCM URL parsing preserves encoded traversal segments in file paths, and integration functions append those paths while constructing credentialed API URLs. Affected instances must use GitHub or Bitbucket integrations with the scaffolder or another feature that accepts user-provided SCM URLs; exposure is limited to data reachable with the configured server-side token.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
