Root code execution via world-writable monitor home
Published Mar 5, 2026 · Updated Mar 5, 2026
Local privilege escalation in the IDC SFX2100 Satellite Receiver allows local users to execute attacker-controlled code as root. The /home/monitor directory has mode 0777, so any local account can replace commands or symlinks used by the SUID-root kore-terminal or terminal binaries. Exploitation requires low-privileged local access and invocation of a privileged binary that consumes the modified path; successful abuse grants root execution.
