Root file disclosure via setuid ip utility
Published Mar 5, 2026 · Updated Mar 5, 2026
Improper privilege management in the SFX2100 Satellite Receiver allows local users to read root-only files through setuid /sbin/ip. The appliance assigns the root-owned /sbin/ip binary the setuid bit, and its batch-file option reads attacker-selected files without dropping effective root privileges. Access to a low-privileged local account is required; demonstrated impact is disclosure of privileged text files such as /etc/shadow.
