Arbitrary file deletion via missing ownership check
Published Mar 26, 2026 · Updated Mar 26, 2026
Missing authorization in Open WebUI before 0.8.6 allows remote authenticated users to delete arbitrary knowledge-base files. The POST /api/v1/knowledge/{id}/file/remove handler verifies write access to the requested knowledge base but does not verify that file_id belongs to it. Any account with write access to one knowledge base, or an administrator, can delete a file from another knowledge base when its identifier is known.
