CVE-2026-28972

System crash or kernel-memory write via out-of-bounds write

Published May 11, 2026 · Updated May 11, 2026

Out-of-bounds write in the kernel of affected Apple operating systems allows local users to crash the system or write kernel memory. The kernel fails to validate an app-controlled input before writing beyond the intended buffer; Apple has not disclosed the affected function or input structure. Execution of an app on an affected device is required, and the overwrite can terminate the operating system or modify kernel memory.
