CVE-2026-28825Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Kernel memory corruption via unchecked SMB compression length

Published Mar 25, 2026 · Updated Mar 25, 2026

An out-of-bounds write in macOS before 14.8.5, before 15.7.5, and before 26.4 allows remote attackers to corrupt kernel memory via SMB. The smb2_rq_decompress_read parser copies an attacker-controlled compressed length into an OriginalCompressedSegmentSize-based kernel buffer without checking that the copy fits. Mounting an attacker-controlled share, including through an smb:// link, reaches the flaw under a default configuration; a public trigger reliably panics the kernel, while Apple reports protected-file modification.
