Arbitrary file write via unchecked upload path
Published Mar 12, 2026 · Updated Mar 12, 2026
Path traversal in TinaCMS before 2.1.7 allows remote attackers to write arbitrary files through the development server upload API. The media handler decodes the URL path, resolves its user-controlled segments with path.join(), and writes the upload without verifying that the result remains under the media directory. Default Node.js and Vite path normalization blocks direct traversal, so exploitation requires a proxy or custom server configuration that preserves traversal segments.
