Local privilege escalation via consent-bypassing overlay
Published Sep 8, 2026 · Updated Sep 10, 2026
Elevation of privilege in Google Android 14, 15, 16, 16-qpr2, and 17 allows local users to bypass consent via a tapjacking overlay. IntentForwarderActivity.java's buildMiniResolver creates a mini resolver whose consent flow is not protected against an obscuring overlay, permitting the intended approval boundary to be bypassed. Exploitation requires local execution but needs no additional execution privileges or user interaction, resulting in privileges beyond the attacker's existing context.
