Subscriber topic-state manipulation via missing permission check
Published Feb 28, 2026 · Updated Feb 28, 2026
Missing authorization in wpForo Forum 2.4 before 2.4.16 allows remote authenticated users to close or reopen arbitrary topics. The wpforo_close_ajax handler accepts a valid nonce and attacker-selected topic ID, then changes the topic state without enforcing the moderator permission required for that action. Subscriber-level access supplies the nonce; successful requests alter discussion state but do not grant broader moderator capabilities.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
