Memory corruption via truncated SIXEL buffer offset
Published Mar 9, 2026 · Updated Mar 9, 2026
An out-of-bounds write in ImageMagick before 7.1.2-16 allows remote attackers to corrupt memory via a crafted SIXEL image. The sixel_decode function casts the image-buffer offset to int before indexing imbuf, so a large offset can truncate and direct the pixel write outside the allocated buffer. No privileges or user interaction are required when a network-facing workflow decodes attacker-supplied images; consequences include memory corruption, limited data modification, and service interruption.
