CVE-2026-28384Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Authenticated host RCE via compression command injection

Published Mar 12, 2026 · Updated Mar 12, 2026

Command injection in Canonical LXD 4.12 through 6.6 allows remote authenticated users to execute commands as the LXD daemon. Image and backup API handlers pass the user-controlled compression_algorithm value to compressFile, which shell-splits it and runs the first token through exec.Command without an allowlist. An identity with can_create_images or can_manage_backups can supply a shell interpreter and arguments, gaining host-level execution in the typically root daemon context.
