Code execution via extension archive symlink following
Published Feb 25, 2026 · Updated Feb 25, 2026
Path traversal in Zed before 0.224.4 allows remote attackers to write arbitrary host files through a crafted extension archive. The tar extractor creates archive-supplied symlinks without validation, while the extension path guard checks lexical prefixes without resolving them. Exploitation requires installation of an attacker-controlled extension; writes inherit the Zed user's permissions and enable code execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
