CVE-2026-27969Network attack vector

Arbitrary file write via backup manifest traversal

Published Feb 26, 2026 · Updated Feb 26, 2026

Path traversal in Vitess before 22.0.4 and 23.0.0 through 23.0.2 allows attackers to write files outside restore directories. The backup engine's FileEntry.fullPath method passes a manifest-controlled file name to path.Join without verifying that the resolved path remains under its selected data or restore root. Read/write access to backup storage and a subsequent restore are required; a crafted manifest can expose deployment data or place files that enable arbitrary command execution.
