Arbitrary file overwrite via unsanitized ZIP paths
Published Feb 25, 2026 · Updated Feb 25, 2026
Path traversal in Vikunja before 2.0.0 allows attackers to overwrite host files through a crafted ZIP passed to the CLI restore command. The restoreConfig function passes zip.File.Name directly to os.OpenFile without confining the resolved path, and malformed archive structure also causes an out-of-range panic. An administrator or automated process must run the restore command; the panic occurs after the database is wiped, leaving the instance unusable and its data lost.
