Arbitrary file write via unsanitized ZIP paths
Published Feb 25, 2026 · Updated Feb 25, 2026
Path traversal in Zed before 0.224.4 allows remote attackers to write files outside the extension sandbox via crafted ZIP entries. The extract_zip function joins each raw entry filename to the destination and passes the result to directory and file creation without containment validation. Exploitation requires installation of a malicious extension, which can overwrite files accessible to the Zed process.
