Branch-protection bypass via ignored scanner errors
Published Jul 3, 2026 · Updated Jul 3, 2026
Incorrect authorization in Gitea before 1.26.0 allows remote attackers to bypass branch protection with oversized Git push input. The pre-receive hook reads update lines with bufio.Scanner but previously ignored scanner.Err(), so an oversized token silently ended scanning and skipped remaining protection logic. Exploitation requires reaching Git push processing; successful input can admit branch changes that configured protection rules should reject.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
