Sensitive-file exposure via out-of-tree path staging
Published Feb 25, 2026 · Updated Feb 25, 2026
Path traversal in Model Context Protocol mcp-server-git before 2026.1.14 allows remote attackers to stage files outside a repository. The git_add tool passes unvalidated files arguments to GitPython's repo.index.add(), which accepts ../ paths resolving beyond the working tree. A user or agent must invoke the tool action, and staged sensitive files are exposed only if a later commit and push sends them to a remote repository.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
